Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: D-.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

The Powell-Ryland reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.

Spending an early pick on defensive back with running back and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick13 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
In No. 13 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in slot 40 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick45 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at the 45th pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamren Kinchens in pick 68. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick104 Rnd4 Graham Barton
No edge and no loss on Graham Barton in pick No. 104; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Khyree Jackson while clear needs at running back and linebacker sat open.
Pick132 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They left a pile of value on the table to take Antwaun Powell-Ryland this early at the 132nd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick141 Rnd5 T.J. Sanders
They jumped the gun on T.J. Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick182 Rnd6 Cam Hart
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225 Rnd7 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at pick 225 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
