Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB+
FutureB
The Panthers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Panthers left quarterback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Franklin value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Beebe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Troy Franklin at the 39th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at pick No. 65, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick101
Rnd4
Nelson Ceaser
They paid up for Nelson Ceaser at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick168
Rnd5
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips at pick 168 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick180
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Nothing to complain about; Curtis Jacobs went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at slot 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222
Rnd7
Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris in No. 222 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
