FutureA+
Maye is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a C. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The final tally is a middling C.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Van Pran reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Hart at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Hit on Drake Maye and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in the 34th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick46
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson slipping to the 46th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick 74 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick116
Rnd4
Beau Brade
A tidy little value on Beau Brade in No. 116, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick122
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cam Hart
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at No. 146. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick235
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
They did well to land Nathaniel Watson in the 235th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
