Big Ballyn DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nick Emmanwori, the No. 19 name on the board, stolen at No. 41.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Simpkins III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 10 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in pick 39 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at the 41st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at Round 5, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233
Rnd7
Shemar James
By-the-book stuff, Shemar James at the 233rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
A big swing on Torricelli Simpkins III at pick No. 240, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
