aarg DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B-. The Bears torched the value chart for Graham Mertz, taking him 125 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick No. 10 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in pick 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A premium they did not need to pay, JT Tuimoloau a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
No edge and no loss on Tate Ratledge in Round 3, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the 149th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick197
Rnd6
CJ West
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ West this early at the Round 6 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They barely believed it either: Luke Lachey still on the board at Round 7, Pick 17. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick242
Rnd7
Graham Mertz
Graham Mertz at slot 242 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
