CowboyUp517 DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys

The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on West: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. CJ West tumbling to the Cowboys in the Round 7 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get a featured back, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Value with a capital V on Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 12, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick 76 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Nice patience on Malachi Moore, who had no business lasting to slot 149. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick174
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Willie Lampkin. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick204
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A straight-up fair deal on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
Good price on Jason Marshall Jr. in the 211th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217
Rnd7
CJ West
Somehow CJ West was still sitting there in No. 217, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick239
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at Round 7, Pick 23 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Wease Jr. at slot 247 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
