Draft Grade — Bears

FutureD
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: B. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Barton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick14
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick36
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Value with a capital V on Cooper DeJean in the 36th pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40
Rnd2
Graham Barton
Graham Barton slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A big swing on Brenden Rice at the 67th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at No. 75 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
