Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Jones Jr. should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Emery Jones Jr. had no business being available in slot 175, and the Bills did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Walker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In No. 30 they get a problem off the edge at fair value.
Pick56 Rnd2 Deone Walker
They went early on Deone Walker in the 56th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick62 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick108 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Taking Tez Johnson in pick No. 108 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick 131, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
No edge and no loss on Dorian Strong in slot 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick175 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Emery Jones Jr. in Round 5, Pick 36, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick179 Rnd6 Lander Barton
They robbed the room for Lander Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Hayden Conner
No drama and no debate, Hayden Conner went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 28. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in pick 208 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
