Draft Grade — Browns
Overall A-
ValueA- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB+
The Browns let Taylor fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

When a board-topper like J'Mari Taylor slides to the Round 6 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Browns paired the rookies with proven help, Trey Smith leading the way.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, with Arvell Reese leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick 13 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick39 Rnd2 Denzel Boston
They robbed the room for Denzel Boston here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick48 Rnd2 Monroe Freeling
They paid sticker price for Monroe Freeling in Round 2, Pick 16, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick61 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
They read the board right and Elijah Sarratt was the payoff at No. 61. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in slot 79 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139 Rnd5 Justin Joly
Taking Justin Joly in pick No. 139 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris McClellan at the 144th overall pick is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick204 Rnd6 J'Mari Taylor
A top-tier running back at a bargain, J'Mari Taylor in slot 204, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick248 Rnd7 London Humphreys
A tidy little value on London Humphreys in the 248th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
