Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
The Bears let McNeil-Warren fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in pick 89 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The Bears indulged a want in Fitzgerald while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Nice patience on Olaivavega Ioane, who had no business lasting to slot 36. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Fair-plus on Jake Slaughter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick No. 89 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick117 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 4 slot on Bishop Fitzgerald with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Kilgore at Round 4, Pick 29. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis slipping to the 163rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219 Rnd7 Keyshaun Elliott
Keyshaun Elliott at No. 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
They let Zavion Thomas come to them and pounced at pick 239. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
No drama and no debate, Diego Pavia went about where he belonged in pick 241. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
