Truckley45 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Beck: B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Carson Beck got past him. The Steelers do not have to explain a thing at the 213th overall pick. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The cost of the Green reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In slot 20 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Arch Manning
Nothing to complain about; Arch Manning went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Cayden Green
A premium they did not need to pay, Cayden Green a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick84
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 20 is lovely value for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Steal is underselling it; Keon Sabb at No. 99 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119
Rnd4
Brendan Sorsby
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brendan Sorsby in the 119th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 133 on Chase Bisontis with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher unsolved.
Pick160
Rnd5
Hollywood Smothers
Hollywood Smothers at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Tree Babalade
A clean, defensible pick in slot 212 with a little surplus value in Tree Babalade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick213
Rnd6
Carson Beck
A quarterback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 35 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
Shamar Easter in the 234th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
