Draft Grade — Browns
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Browns won the night they stopped Lane from sliding. Grade: A-.

Somebody in Round 5, Pick 6 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Browns sat still while Ja'Kobi Lane, the No. 70 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They are betting Hemby proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Carnell Tate and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the 18th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu at pick No. 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick39 Rnd2 Monroe Freeling
A reach for Monroe Freeling in slot 39; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick49 Rnd2 Colton Hood
They barely believed it either: Colton Hood still on the board at Round 2, Pick 17. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick70 Rnd3 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in pick 70 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick93 Rnd3 Gennings Dunker
Taking Gennings Dunker in No. 93 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick107 Rnd4 Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139 Rnd5 Eli Raridon
A slide stopped in the 139th overall pick, with Eli Raridon worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Ja'Kobi Lane
Circle this one: Ja'Kobi Lane at Round 5, Pick 6 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
They read the board right and Chris McClellan was the payoff at the 147th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick204 Rnd6 Diego Pavia
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Diego Pavia. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
