FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Johnson: A. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Rashawn Slater gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In the end it comes back to Mykel Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams in the 25th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Taking Walter Nolen in Round 2, Pick 9 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at No. 72 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at slot 94 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 127 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
