Adam0831 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+

FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Strong: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Ian Strong, the No. 63 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 89.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. If Lomu pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In No. 25 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at pick No. 57 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ian Strong
Ian Strong in slot 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
They paid sticker price for Parker Brailsford in Round 4, Pick 25, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick133
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
They did well to land Michael Trigg in the 133rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd4
Tao Johnson
They let Tao Johnson come to them and pounced at pick 139. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick172
Rnd5
Drew Allar
The board fumbled Drew Allar all the way to the 172nd pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
