Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Broncos cashed the board's mistake on Johnson: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Tez Johnson at Round 4, Pick 22 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. If Zuhn III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Job largely done: linebacker settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Colston Loveland
In the 30th pick they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in pick 54, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick56 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Nice patience on Xavier Watts, who had no business lasting to No. 56. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick85 Rnd3 Deone Walker
The board fumbled Deone Walker all the way to the 85th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
The board had Jared Wilson higher than slot 121, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 4, Pick 30 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick193 Rnd6 Nazir Stackhouse
They paid sticker price for Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 193, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick202 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at pick No. 202 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick206 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in pick 206 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick210 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
A tidy bit of business in slot 210, where Luke Lachey graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick257 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at the 257th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
