Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureA+
The Patriots turned the phones into found money: B+. Nobody had Nick Nash this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 145 spots to get him at No. 104.
Sauls falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, safety and other spots went begging.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in slot 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Good price on Tyler Booker in the 44th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69
Rnd3
Deone Walker
By-the-book stuff, Deone Walker at No. 69 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, safety and other spots to take Carson Schwesinger, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Nick Nash
They reached a country mile for Nick Nash at Round 4, Pick 3, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick143
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
They talked themselves into Anthony Belton at Round 5, Pick 6, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
A big swing on Nohl Williams at the 148th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
Jalen Rivers at the 217th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ben Sauls
They robbed the room for Ben Sauls here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick238
Rnd7
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in pick 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
