Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Kedon Slovis in the 251st overall pick, a good 63 spots before the room expected him.

However the rest shakes out, Wallace at that price is a win they earned. The Pritchett pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back and edge rusher.

For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Max Melton
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at No. 63, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A reach on Zak Zinter in the 94th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They jumped the gun on Theo Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick130 Rnd4 Nehemiah Pritchett
A surprising call. With running back and edge rusher still to address, they spent pick 130 on Nehemiah Pritchett, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick132 Rnd4 Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett in pick No. 132 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick175 Rnd5 Cornelius Johnson
They liked Cornelius Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 175. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick211 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 211th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Steele Chambers
They barely believed it either: Steele Chambers still on the board at Round 6, Pick 40. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at slot 232 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick251 Rnd7 Kedon Slovis
They reached a country mile for Kedon Slovis at pick 251, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
