A franchise passer in Maye headlines a C- weekend for the Patriots.

The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.

The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Hit on Drake Maye and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A quiet steal in No. 34: Jordan Morgan for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68 Rnd3 Chris Braswell
They let Chris Braswell come to them and pounced at slot 68. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 84 with a little surplus value in Malachi Corley. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick121 Rnd4 Max Melton
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 21, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick136 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
A reach on Dallin Holker in pick 136; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jha'Quan Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229 Rnd7 Donovan Jennings
Donovan Jennings at the 229th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
