FutureA
The Falcons let Neal fall into their laps, and walked away with a D. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Falcons started one anyway for Dayon Hayes, 118 picks ahead of schedule. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Getting Neal where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They will replay Tyler Warren at the 46th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick No. 58 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick62
Rnd2
Zy Alexander
They did well to land Zy Alexander in slot 62, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick119
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
Taking Dylan Fairchild in pick 119 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick165
Rnd5
Dayon Hayes
Value said wait; Dayon Hayes in the 165th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204
Rnd6
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in Round 6, Pick 29 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kaden Prather
They liked Kaden Prather enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 235. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith in the 242nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
