Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sanders is the Steelers' new face under center. Grade: B. The Steelers spent the pick that matters most on Shedeur Sanders, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Bech steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The James pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In pick 21 they get a franchise quarterback, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Somehow Jack Bech was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
No drama and no debate, Jeffrey Bassa went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 21. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in No. 156 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185
Rnd6
Vernon Broughton
They took Vernon Broughton at par in slot 185, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers at the 197th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick229
Rnd7
Shemar James
A reach on Shemar James in the 229th pick; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
