Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Nick Gargiulo, 44 picks ahead of schedule. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Jones pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in the 51st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick97 Rnd3 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at Round 3, Pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick115 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
They took Tyler Davis at par in the 115th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick119 Rnd4 Christian Jones
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Christian Jones in No. 119 leaves safety, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick120 Rnd4 Michael Pratt
Michael Pratt at pick 120 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
No drama and no debate, Ty'Ron Hopper went about where he belonged in the 178th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wiley a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Nick Gargiulo
They talked themselves into Nick Gargiulo at No. 237, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
