The Ravens kept it disciplined and banked a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Ravens did exactly that with Samson Okunlola in Round 7, Pick 30. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They banked enough surplus on Hale to cover a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Malik Muhammad
In No. 31 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick64
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan in pick No. 64 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick95
Rnd3
Charles Jagusah
A reach on Charles Jagusah in pick 95; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131
Rnd4
Earnest Greene III
They liked Earnest Greene III enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick143
Rnd5
Mark Fletcher Jr.
They went early on Mark Fletcher Jr. in slot 143, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick170
Rnd5
Bear Alexander
A wild overpay on Bear Alexander in the 170th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kelby Collins
Value said wait; Kelby Collins in pick No. 172 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
A reach for Jaishawn Barham in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jalen Hale
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen Hale in the 244th overall pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245
Rnd7
Trey Leckner
The board fumbled Trey Leckner all the way to Round 7, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Samson Okunlola
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Samson Okunlola well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
