Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Ravens: C+. The Ravens treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 246 on Ethan Calvert a full 172 spots early.
However the rest shakes out, Babalade at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
In the 31st pick they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at slot 63 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95
Rnd3
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at the 95th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in Round 4, Pick 29 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick143
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170
Rnd5
A'Marion Peterson
A'Marion Peterson at No. 170 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick172
Rnd5
Tree Babalade
Tree Babalade at Round 5, Pick 34 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175
Rnd5
Trey Moore
They reached a country mile for Trey Moore at the 175th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
Johntay Cook II
Good price on Johntay Cook II in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick246
Rnd7
Ethan Calvert
They reached into another round for Ethan Calvert, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
