Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Ravens get a C+. The tape said wait; the Ravens did not. Shaun Dolac went at slot 243, a good 96 picks before the board was ready. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The Borregales pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Phillips pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
If Grey Zabel and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at slot 59 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at No. 129 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick136
Rnd4
Andres Borregales
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Andres Borregales, a specialist that was not the priority.
Pick176
Rnd5
Phil Mafah
They talked themselves into Phil Mafah at pick No. 176, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Nice patience on Ajani Cornelius, who had no business lasting to the 183rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick203
Rnd6
Addison West
Addison West at pick No. 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick212
Rnd6
Davin Vann
Davin Vann at Round 6, Pick 36 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at slot 218 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Isas Waxter
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isas Waxter well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac at pick 243 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick254
Rnd7
Da'Quan Felton
A real head-scratcher, Da'Quan Felton in No. 254 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
