The Ravens worked the phones like thieves and earned a B-. The Ravens went off the board in a big way for Shaun Dolac, 133 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. However the rest shakes out, Hampton at that price is a win they earned.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will answer for taking specialist early while quarterback went begging.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Warren at the Round 2 slot is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at No. 59 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Aireontae Ersery at slot 62. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Burch this early at the 66th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91
Rnd3
Andres Borregales
A curious use of the 91st pick. Quarterback needed the pick; a specialist in Andres Borregales did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo slipping to pick No. 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick95
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
No drama and no debate, Zy Alexander went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They talked themselves into Antwaun Powell-Ryland at slot 109, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles at Round 4, Pick 30 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
A reach on Jackson Slater in pick No. 136; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in No. 176 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179
Rnd6
R.J. Mickens
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for R.J. Mickens. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick183
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at pick 183 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203
Rnd6
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at the 203rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Shaun Dolac
A big swing on Shaun Dolac at No. 206, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick210
Rnd6
Davin Vann
Value said wait; Davin Vann in pick 210 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick212
Rnd6
Drew Kendall
They reached into another round for Drew Kendall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243
Rnd7
Isas Waxter
A real head-scratcher, Isas Waxter in the 243rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
