Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
C+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Raiders to a C+. Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Burden III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If Mukuba pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Ashton Jeanty and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 6 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They paid up for Andrew Mukuba at No. 68 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick108
Rnd4
Will Howard
Nothing to complain about; Will Howard went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick143
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
The board had cheaper options than O'Donnell Fortune at Round 5, Pick 5, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
They took Jack Nelson at par in the 180th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
They read the board right and Donovan Edwards was the payoff at the 213th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson in pick No. 215 is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick222
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
No edge and no loss on Akili Arnold in pick No. 222; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
