Dukey DRAFTING FOR THERaiders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Simpson is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Ty Simpson, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Freeling to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Kilgore. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
No drama and no debate, Anthony Hill Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 36. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick67
Rnd3
Will Lee III
A reach for Will Lee III in slot 67; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick105
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
The board had cheaper options than Monroe Freeling at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick112
Rnd4
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at the 112th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
The board had Jalon Kilgore higher than the 134th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves in No. 173 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183
Rnd6
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at pick 183 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick185
Rnd6
CJ Daniels
Fair-plus on CJ Daniels, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner slid further than he should have, and slot 220 is lovely value for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
