Rivers should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a B. The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Chandler Rivers, the No. 122 name on the board, in the 163rd overall pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 24th pick they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick89
Rnd3
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers in pick 163 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick202
Rnd6
Micah Morris
No edge and no loss on Micah Morris in pick No. 202; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237
Rnd7
Trey Holly
Trey Holly at slot 237 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
