Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Jaguars fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Jaguars did exactly that with Jahiem White in the 241st pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Metcalf at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick61 Rnd2 Ben Roberts
Nothing to complain about; Ben Roberts went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick81 Rnd3 Josh Hoover
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Hoover a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88 Rnd3 Cooper Barkate
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cooper Barkate well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
A slide stopped in No. 100, with Kade Pieper worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124 Rnd4 Koi Perich
Koi Perich at pick 124 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
A tidy bit of business in the 126th overall pick, where Jayden Jackson graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick162 Rnd5 Braelin Moore
A quiet steal in pick No. 162: Braelin Moore for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jacob Ponton
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jacob Ponton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 C.J. Fite
They jumped the gun on C.J. Fite, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
You do not let a safety like TJ Metcalf reach Round 7, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick226 Rnd7 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at the 226th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick228 Rnd7 Isaac Brown
Isaac Brown in the 228th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 Austin Romaine
No edge and no loss on Austin Romaine in pick 232; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233 Rnd7 James Peoples
James Peoples at slot 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 Shamar Porter
Shamar Porter in Round 7, Pick 23 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jahiem White
Value said wait; Jahiem White in slot 241 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245 Rnd7 Xavier Scott
They reached into another round for Xavier Scott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick250 Rnd7 Evan Stewart
They took Evan Stewart at par in pick No. 250, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256 Rnd7 Anthony Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Anthony Smith this early at No. 256. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
