Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Rasheen Ali in pick No. 219. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Darius Robinson
In No. 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick58 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in the 58th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88 Rnd3 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
No drama and no debate, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick91 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cedric Gray while clear needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in Round 4, Pick 26 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Tanor Bortolini
A wild overpay on Tanor Bortolini in pick No. 169, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick202 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 202nd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219 Rnd6 Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali in pick 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245 Rnd7 Ryan Watts
They jumped the gun on Ryan Watts, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 Anim Dankwah
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Anim Dankwah well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
