Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Dolphins did enough to get by: C+.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Dolphins shredded theirs for Seth McLaughlin. He came off 33 spots early, and the room will hear about it. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

It is not that Ransom is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Leonard falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
They went early on Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Lathan Ransom
A curious use of slot 98. Wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Lathan Ransom did not.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A big swing on Jackson Slater at the 116th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick135 Rnd4 Seth McLaughlin
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Seth McLaughlin well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick150 Rnd5 Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at pick 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick155 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Trevor Etienne at the 155th pick is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
They liked Bilhal Kone enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 224. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick231 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
They jumped the gun on Mac McWilliams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick253 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
No edge and no loss on Cody Lindenberg in pick No. 253; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
