The Cowboys land in the muddy middle: C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Jay Higgins in Round 5, Pick 36. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick No. 12 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick66
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
No edge and no loss on Quinshon Judkins in the 66th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams in the 76th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 112 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Value said wait; Jay Higgins in slot 174 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick204
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at the 204th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in Round 6, Pick 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick239
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers in pick No. 239 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
