Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chargers: B.

Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The Chargers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.

They are betting Vann proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Pearce Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the 22nd overall pick they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
No edge and no loss on Harold Fannin Jr. in pick 55; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick86 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
They went early on Darius Alexander in Round 3, Pick 22, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125 Rnd4 Mello Dotson
A conviction pick on Mello Dotson at the 125th pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick158 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nice patience on Nick Nash, who had no business lasting to pick No. 158. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181 Rnd6 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in slot 181 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199 Rnd6 Caleb Ransaw
They paid a round early for Caleb Ransaw in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick209 Rnd6 Addison West
They paid sticker price for Addison West in No. 209, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick214 Rnd6 Simeon Barrow Jr.
Simeon Barrow Jr. at the 214th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Davin Vann
A reach on Davin Vann in slot 256; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
