The 49ers let McCaffrey fall and pounced. Final grade: D+.

Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. With running back, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They banked enough surplus on McCaffrey to cover a lot of smaller sins.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

In Round 1, Pick 31 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
