Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureC+
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says F.

The Bears went off the board in a big way for Luke McCaffrey, 49 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A F, plain and simple.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bullock.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 3rd overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Fair-plus on Ladd McConkey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick36 Rnd2 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick No. 36 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 43rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Steal is underselling it; Calen Bullock at No. 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick74 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 74 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at No. 75 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Luke McCaffrey
A real head-scratcher, Luke McCaffrey in the 94th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at slot 101, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A wild overpay on Ben Sinnott in the 102nd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tommy Eichenberg this early at pick 104. The roster fit checks out.
Pick105 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
Value said wait; Dallin Holker in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick110 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 123 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ty'Ron Hopper well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick142 Rnd5 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 142 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 143 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
A big swing on Roger Rosengarten at the 161st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick182 Rnd6 Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at pick No. 182 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick222 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They reached a country mile for Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 7, Pick 2, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
