You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Carson Steele at slot 224, roughly 35 spots before his name belonged. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Bears indulged a want in Holker while a need in interior defensive lineman and linebacker stayed open. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with interior defensive lineman still staring back at them.
