FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Jaguars. Nobody else had Patrick Payton anywhere near Round 5, Pick 26. The Jaguars did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They banked enough surplus on Singleton to cover a lot of smaller sins.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at the 56th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
Mikail Kamara at the 81st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick89
Rnd3
Blake Miller
Blake Miller at Round 3, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A tidy bit of business in No. 100, where Nicholas Singleton graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
A slide stopped in pick No. 124, with Tacario Davis worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick162
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Nwankpa at pick 162 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick164
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Value said wait; Patrick Payton in Round 5, Pick 26 says they were not listening. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick233
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
A tidy little value on Ethan O'Connor in the Round 7 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Luke Hasz
Luke Hasz at No. 245 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
