Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.

They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The phones were where this weekend was really won. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

With linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. On value alone, Shipley makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, with Caleb Williams leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 5 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the 9th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
Pick31 Rnd1 Graham Barton
In pick 31 they get a cornerstone up front.
Pick34 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
They took Darius Robinson at par in pick No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 35th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Nothing to complain about; Zach Frazier went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at linebacker to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick94 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
Value with a capital V on Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick110 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They went early on Theo Johnson in pick No. 110, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick122 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Will Shipley at the 122nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
