FutureB+
The Vikings fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Weeks. The Lee III pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, tight end and other spots.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Weigman left real value on the table behind him.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
Avieon Terrell at the 25th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick44
Rnd2
Connor Lew
No edge and no loss on Connor Lew in No. 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Will Lee III
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, tight end and other spots to take Will Lee III, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick114
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
They let Whit Weeks come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 14. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick126
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
A tidy bit of business in the 126th pick, where Zachariah Branch graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick170
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at pick 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick213
Rnd6
Conner Weigman
They paid a round early for Conner Weigman in slot 213, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at pick No. 226 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jordan Castell
Jordan Castell in slot 229 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
