Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: D.

The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Christian Mahogany, taking him 40 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake. They banked enough surplus on Murphy II to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick17 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at Round 1, Pick 17 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick25 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II in pick 36 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Patrick Paul well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick58 Rnd2 Christian Mahogany
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Mahogany this early at pick No. 58. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A big swing on Brenden Rice at No. 75, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
A reach for Jarrian Jones in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
