Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
C
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB
The Seahawks got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. The Seahawks lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Call it a C and check back in two years.
If McClellan pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Pearl steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Steve Avila deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
If Dallas Turner and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In pick 26 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
They took Christian Haynes at par in the 57th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Fair-plus on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
They paid sticker price for Mekhi Wingo in the 102nd pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler at No. 118 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick154
Rnd5
Josh Newton
No edge and no loss on Josh Newton in Round 5, Pick 18; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jamari Thrash
They read the board right and Jamari Thrash was the payoff at pick No. 155. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick184
Rnd6
Dominique Hampton
By-the-book stuff, Dominique Hampton at pick No. 184 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241
Rnd7
Julian Pearl
The board had Julian Pearl higher than slot 241, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
