Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Ravens kept it disciplined and banked a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Ravens would have aced it. Jalen Rivers at No. 245 is 135 spots clear of where he belonged.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Cornelius pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Mike Green
They paid sticker price for Mike Green in No. 27, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick59
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
The board had Aireontae Ersery higher than the 59th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Alexander. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius is a better player than Round 4, Pick 27 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick136
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson in slot 136 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176
Rnd5
Addison West
They reached into another round for Addison West, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick185
Rnd6
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers in No. 185 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205
Rnd6
Gino Garcia
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gino Garcia in pick No. 205, miles early. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Briningstool well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
A big swing on Jalen Rivers at the 245th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
