Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureC
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B to match.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Smith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

Landing Ford that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
No drama and no debate, Caleb Williams went about where he belonged in the 2nd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick13 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In slot 13 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick19 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zach Frazier this early at pick No. 40. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick44 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at the 44th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They talked themselves into Maason Smith at No. 75, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
They paid sticker price for Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 78, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
They liked Jarrian Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 22. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Circle this one: Jaylan Ford at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
