Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Blue from sliding. Grade: B.

The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaydon Blue, the No. 175 name on the board, in the Round 6 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In No. 12 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They will replay Tyler Warren at the 44th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jayden Higgins in the 76th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
A slide stopped in pick No. 149, with Tyler Shough worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They barely believed it either: O'Donnell Fortune still on the board at pick 171. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
No edge and no loss on Willie Lampkin in Round 5, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 204 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
The board fumbled Jaydon Blue all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 Shemar James
A straight-up fair deal on Shemar James at the 239th pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford in Round 7, Pick 31 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
