Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureC-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Frazier has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. That Rakestraw Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in the 9th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick18
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick 18 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at Round 2, Pick 3 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick36
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at slot 36 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at the 65th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
The board fumbled Ennis Rakestraw Jr. all the way to No. 75, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
