Larceny in No. 149 lands the Cowboys a B-, Bryant and all. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cobee Bryant, the No. 125 name on the board, stolen at slot 149. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If Wohler pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the 12th overall pick they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 44th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cobee Bryant in pick No. 149, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
CJ West
They went early on CJ West in slot 174, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
No edge and no loss on Jay Higgins in pick 204; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Rogers in No. 211. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at Round 7, Pick 1 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick239
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Nice patience on Phil Mafah, who had no business lasting to pick 239. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler in slot 247 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
