The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Derek Carr by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
