Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B.

The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

Getting Reiman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with edge rusher, safety and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

McCaffrey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Nice patience on Brian Thomas Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 34. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia slid further than he should have, and pick 68 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick113 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with edge rusher, safety and other spots open.
Pick136 Rnd4 Fabien Lovett
A reach for Fabien Lovett in Round 4, Pick 36; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
They liked Luke McCaffrey enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 148. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick182 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at the 182nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick229 Rnd7 Tanor Bortolini
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tanor Bortolini at the Round 7 slot is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman at the 252nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
