Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Elijah Roberts, 66 picks ahead of schedule.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
However the rest shakes out, Egbuka at that price is a win they earned. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In pick No. 23 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
They will replay Emeka Egbuka at the 58th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They took Carson Schwesinger at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A quiet steal in slot 74: Tre Harris for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in No. 75 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Deone Walker
No drama and no debate, Deone Walker went about where he belonged in pick 79. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the 95th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Ozzy Trapilo in slot 100, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in the 113th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Elijah Roberts
A real head-scratcher, Elijah Roberts in pick No. 117 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at pick 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138
Rnd4
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
They reached a country mile for Jack Kiser at Round 5, Pick 9, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
Quietly one of the better values of the day, O'Donnell Fortune at No. 169. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jordan Hancock
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Hancock this early at the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick177
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
A wild overpay on Nazir Stackhouse in slot 177, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens is a better player than the 227th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick237
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A conviction pick on Teddye Buchanan at the 241st pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
