The Dolphins found their guy under center in Mestemaker: A. The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: David Stone, the No. 21 name on the board, sitting there at the 88th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Drew Mestemaker is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Daniel Faalele pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In the end it comes back to Drew Mestemaker, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Drew Mestemaker
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Trey'Dez Green
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey'Dez Green in pick No. 35. The roster fit checks out.
Pick55
Rnd2
Boubacar Traore
Boubacar Traore at pick 55 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at pick No. 67 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88
Rnd3
David Stone
Circle this one: David Stone at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Nate Frazier
Somehow Nate Frazier was still sitting there in the 104th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Ryan Coleman-Williams
They barely believed it either: Ryan Coleman-Williams still on the board at the 105th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tony Rojas
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tony Rojas in No. 140. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148
Rnd5
Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at Round 5, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson in slot 161 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Blake Frazier
A tidy little value on Blake Frazier in Round 6, Pick 3, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
C.J. Fite
C.J. Fite at the 241st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254
Rnd7
Joseph Borjon
They robbed the room for Joseph Borjon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
